(OOC: This thread takes place on Day 1 and is for Penee and Fantine only.)
The two-toned pup was happy to be away from her siblings. Why were they perfect? Why were they loved? Weren't they mistakes too? There'll be more time to think about that later. she promised herself. Fantine turned to look at Penee. "Uh, thanks for coming exploring with me." it was akward. Well she was akward around other people. "So, uh, what's your life like?" All she was trying to do was make conversation. "Do you have any siblings or other family?"

"Nae, I dinae have any siblings." she replied, presenting her new friend - for that was how she thought of Fantine - with a friendly smile. "I jus' lived with my parents - but we had tae keep moving so that enemies from th' war wouldnae find us." Smile faltered. "They still did, tho'. Me an' mom got away - I never saw what happaned tae dad. I dinae kno' if he survived." She looked away, the memory clearly still fresh - and painful.

Fantine just looked down. "Sometimes it's better not to have a father." she said quietly. The pup looked up at Penee. "I-I'm sorry." she said quickly.

"I dinae understand. Dad always loved me... how could he hav' been so different in yuir world?" The pup wasn't trying to rub in in Fantine's face, she just truly didn't understand. She'd said her father was Lucky - but Penee could never think of her own father abandoning her the way this alternate Lucky seemed to have.

"He left for someone else. He and mom left because...because well we're mistakes! I mean..I mean look at me!"
Where had that come from? The pup turned away from Penee. "I..I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you like that." Emerald eyes focused on the ground.
Way to go Fantine.

Penee recoiled momentarily, surprised, before stepping closer to Fantine as she looked away. She still couldn't see how dad could have been so mean... but in the end, she decided, it didn't matter.
"Ye dinnae look like a mistake tae me." Despite everything, she actually LIKED Fantine - and meant the words she was saying. "I jus' think th' rest of yuir family must be too blind tae see that."

Fantine looked back at her half-sister. A small smile played on her lips. "You really mean that?" she asked half-hopefully. The pup looked at the picture in Penee's locket. Those two dogs together, they looked almost...almost like sisters. "Hey Penee, do you think we could be like...like these two?" the pup asked pointing to the picture of Penny and Rebecca.

"'Course I do." Penee replied, smiling kindly. "I may have a bi' of a reputation as an egotist, but I'm nae a lier."
Looking down at the locket when Fantine pointed at it, she couldn't help but smile at the picture of her namesake and Rebecca. "Tha' was mom an' aunt Penny." she explained distractedly, before her attention returned to the older pup. "I bet we c'n be like them." she replied, pleased that her premention about Fantine was fast being prooved right - the girl was indeed nicer than she'd appeared at first glance.

Fantine gave the younger pup a warm smile. No one had ever thought that she was nice before. "I've..I've never really had a sister before." she whispered. Honstly, she like Penee. More so than all her other litter mates.

"Aye never had a sister eit'er." Penee admitted. "After I was born, mom an' dad decided it w's tae dangerous tae have any more puppies." She shook herself out of the past, gently patting Fantine's shoulder with a paw. "We'll stick close t'gether." she promised.
Mom and Aunt Penny (were she still alive) would be so proud of her for this! The thought only served to inflate the pup's not-unsizable ego a bit more.
